Family Literacy-Join Us!

Family Literacy

Parental involvement in their child’s literacy practices is a more powerful force than other family background variables, such as social class, family size and level of parental education. Although parental involvement has the greatest effect in the early years, its importance to children’s educational and literacy outcomes continues into the teenage and even adult years.  Our family literacy programs offer engaging programs and classes that involve the whole family in their literacy development.

If you would like to see a list of our current programs and classes, see below or check out our Upcoming Events tab for our calendar. You can also click “Join Us” to be added to our mailing list when we add new programs!

Literacy for Little Ones: Sept 17-May 20, Monthly on the third Friday, 1:30-2:30pm

This family literacy program is open to all parents and their preschool-aged children to encourage early reading and participation in reading/learning activities. Statistics show that introducing  babies and preschool age children to books is one of the most important factors in their later school success.  We meet monthly at the Lakeland Jt School District Office to share a fun picture book and enjoy art activities that celebrate the learning we do that day.

Register HERE for our FREE preschool program!  We will read, create, and move together each month to celebrate early literacy with you and your little one!

Summer Book Club

This program is a partnership between The Literacy Project of North Idaho and The Lakeland Jt School District.
Our united goal is to help all families in our North Idaho area to have the tools to support the success of our children/students. Parents and their students will meet with us at Majestic Park to enjoy a great book, learn how to read with your child at home to support the acquisition of reading skills, and help our students develop a life-long love of reading. Meals will be provided for participants. All reading ages/levels are welcome-general interest level Grade 3-Jr high! If you have questions regarding age of your student please contact us!

For your convenience we will offer two sessions each Wednesday: A lunchtime session (11:30-1:00pm) for those available to meet during the day and another evening option (5:30-7:00pm) for those who may have schedule conflicts during the day. Feel free to choose whichever fits your schedule best.
Our book club will run weekly meeting on Wednesdays starting June 16-July 21. We will meet at Majestic Park on the following Wednesdays from 11:30-1:00 pm or 5:30-7pm : June 16, 23, 30 & July 7,14, and the 21st.
